District Magistrate, Ghaziabad, Ritu Maheshwari today said that a drive against adulterated food items has been ongoing since October 10 in the district, and huge qualities of adulterated sweets and other food items have been seized and destroyed in the process and the offenders taken to task. Maheshwari said that since the drive began samples of 51 edible items have been taken, such as 11 of rasgullas; 9 of mava; and, 3 of sauce. An estimated 125 quintals of rasgullas worth Rs 25 lakhs were destroyed. Similarly, 40 quintals mava worth Rs 8 lakhs as well as 4 quintals of sauce worth Rs 40,000 were also destroyed.
The DM also informed that on October 13 lots of sweets and food stuff at Bikaner Sweets in Aditya City Centre in Indirapuram were destroyed by the administration after they were found to be sub standard. Similar drives have followed in Modinagar and other areas in the city, she said. At Jindal Bikaner Sweets at Ansal Plaza mall in Vaishali, 10 kgs of khoya, 15 kgs of barfi among other food stuff were also destroyed.
