GHAZIABAD, July 18, 2017: In a bid to rid the city parks facing illegal constructions of more than 5% concrete, environmentalists Akash Vashishtha and Ruchin Mehra have taken up the cudgels to do what it takes and in this regard have asked the Municipal Commissioner, Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam, Chandra Prakash Singh to take action against such illegal constructions inside parks.
It is to be noted here that the National Green Trubunal (NGT) has passed an order (read http://delhincrnews.in/2017/05/16/green-signal-to-library-inside-park-violation-of-green-courts-order-alleges-green-activist/) that no concretization above 5% of area of parks in Uttar Pradesh could be carried out.
However, Akash Vashishtha of the Society for Protection of Environment & Biodiversity (SPEnBIO) and green activist Ruchin Mehra have alleged that Municipal Councillor Praveen Choudhary as well as Nagar Nigam Mayor, Ashu Verma, both are behind the concretization in Raj Nagar Sec 6 park violating the permissible 5% limit, as pronounced by NGT.
delhiNCRnews.in attempt to speak to Mayor was futile as his phone was out of reach. However, Municipal Commissioner, Chandra Prakash Singh said over phone that he was in the know of the situation and would make all possible effort to abide by the green court’s order regarding excess concretization and interlocking tiles.
Both the green activists have also asked the Municipal Commissioner to put a blanket ban on parties, marriage functions etc inside the Nagar Nigam maintained parks, as it would also amount to violation of an earlier SC order.
