Gurugram, May 2, 2017: Adding one more feather to the millennium city’s cap, Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar Lal today inaugurated the South Extension of Rapid Metro Gurgaon. Gurugram has been a frontrunner in getting such state-of-the-art infrastructure, at such an early stage of its development when compared to other larger metropolitan cities in India. The South Extension of Rapid Metro primarily caters to the resident of New Gurugram. It is now for them to harness it by embracing the mass transit systems & make it the preferred mode of their commute.
Rapid Metro Gurgaon – South Extension is open to commuters from 6:05 am till 12:36 (midnight), aligned to the DMRC time table. Seven fully automated trains with a frequency of 4 minutes during peak hours are running between Sikanderpur and Sector 55-56 stations.
Welcoming the Chief Minister at the Rapid Metro system, Rajiv Banga, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, IL & FS Rail said, “We welcome the CM for the inauguration of South Extension. The extension of Rapid Metro network is our endeavor to provide state-of-the-art, safe and convenient mode of commute to the residents of the Millennium City. In our commitment to provide continued convenient services, we are launching a Rapid Metro app to come closer to our commuters.”
While Rapid Metro had demonstrated its capability to build an efficient Metro system in its Phase 1, with the commissioning of the South Extension, Rapid Metro has further demonstrated its commitment as an effective mobility solution provider not only towards developing but also operating an efficient mass transit solution. The entire loop of Rapid Metro Gurgaon with the advent of South Extension is now 11.7 kms with 12 trains and 11 stations connecting 2 dense catchments of Gurgaon – Cyber City and Golf Course Road. As a mechanism to enhance the reach and work towards an integrated solution to improve last mile connectivity, Rapid Metro Gurgaon has also associated with Shuttle providing A/C bus services with a frequency of 15 minutes from 7:00 am till 10:00 pm (Monday- Saturday). There will be monthly pass available for the commuters to provide easy accessibility.
Five buses from Sector 55-56 Rapid Metro station are running connecting commuters up to Vatika crossing via Golf Course Extension Road. The areas covered in the route will be – Vatika City, St. Xaviers Crossing, Nirvana Country on Golf Course Extension Road to Sector 55-56 Rapid Metro stations. E-rickshaws SMART-E are also available for the commuters at Sector 55-56 Rapid Metro stations.
Connectivity from the stations
• Phase 1: Connects to DLF phase -1, Galleria market
• Sector 42-43: Provides connectivity to DLF Phase 5, Vyapar Kendra/ SuperMart, Paras Hospital
• Sector 53-54: Gives access to Genpact, South Point Mall, Parsavnath Exotica
• Sector 54 Chowk: A boon for residents of Suncity, Jalvayu Vihar, Vatika Tower, AIT University. The main elevated depot will also be at this station.
• Sector 55-56: Located near Double Tree by Hilton, Sector 58 & 61, Sushant Lok – II. Boon for residents of Sector 55 -56 and near Golf Course road extension
